'As soon as I picked up the cello I knew it was my destiny' she smiles. By the age of thirteen, she was regularly performing major cello concertos in public and has rarely been out of the limelight since.
BIOGRAPHY
Jane Oliver was born in South Wales and began playing the cello at the age of 6. She studied at Chetham's School of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music with Hannah Roberts, and was then awarded a full scholarship for Postgraduate Studies with Melissa Phelps at the Royal College of Music in London, where she received a Distinction for Solo Studies. Whilst studying, Jane participated in public masterclasses with some of the world's leading cellists including Steven Isserlis, Ralph Kirschbaum, Colin Carr, Johannes Goritzki and Raphael Wallfisch. Upon leaving college, Jane began performing and touring extensively with many of the major London Orchestras including The Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields, BBC Symphony orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Orchestra. She has recorded numerous live broadcasts, CDs and film scores, and has worked both in the studio and on television with artists such as Sir Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart, Enya, The Pet Shop Boys, Chris de Burgh, Katie Melua, David Essex, Lesley Garrett and many more. Jane recently guest starred, along with soprano Katherine Jenkins, at a tribute dinner hosted by the great Welsh baritone, Bryn Terfel.
Over the years, Jane has won numerous competitions, including the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year for Wales. She has also won awards and scholarships from The Martin Musical Trust, The Arts Council of Wales,The South Square Trust and The Ryan Davies Memorial Fund. She has performed concertos and recitals throughout the UK and Europe covering all the major repertoire from Bach and Vivaldi to Dvorak and Elgar. Jane is spending an increasing amount of time in the recording studio where she has completed her debut solo album, "Darker Gold." Several tracks from this album can be seen on the Classic FMTV channel where Jane appears regularly.
She is now established as one of Classic FMTV's most popular
performers, having twice been voted winner of the coveted "Most Wanted" accolade for her atmospheric tracks, "Celtic Homecoming" and "Awyr Iach."
Jane plays on a beautiful Italian cello made by Vincenzo Panormo, dated
1772.
